![]() I've seen a lot of people do the interior conversion because they want the newer stuff. They're also bad about cracking on either top side just behind the gauge trim bezel. And furthermore, there are only 3 upper screws instead of 5 like the older dash. Often the area around the three screw holes is completely broken out. Most I've seen have the same cracks across the defrost vents, they're just often harder to see, but structurally they're just as bad since that's the sole upper mounting point. You're just finding more supposedly good ones now because they're a few years newer. Then surprise, you're now stuck with the EZ-break interior handles, EZ-break hood release handle, and absolutely, entirely, totally worthless cupholder AKA drink-spiller.Īnd, those dashes are no less prone to cracking, either. Along with that new dash you'll need the new A-pillars because the old ones won't fit against it no matter how hard you try the passenger A-pillar will have large holes and the pads on it for the grab handle that your A-pillar metal has no bracket for so you'll either have to cut out or make your own bracket and install the handle or look at those huge gaping holes, you'll have to slot the kick panel metal for the dash side trim strips since the new A-pillars do not incorporate them, then you'll want the new door panels since the old ones don't look right against the new dash so you'll have to change the inner sheetmetal panels on the door too so that the new style handles fit, fight the wiring differences, drill and slot new holes for the hood release handle since it moved to the kick panel and then drill the hole for its relocated cable, then you'll have to notice that the new interior shades are generally much darker than the old ones so none of your stuff matches anymore unless you replace ALL of it including the seats and carpet. If you go with the newer column then you need to bring over the column support from a newer cab too. You *could* use it with your existing column but it looks ridiculous since the opening for the column is shaped different and much larger. I have a 96 (same as a 95) dash in my '94 3500HD and it was a job and a half to make it work. Beyond just the wiring hacks you'll have to do to make it work, physically making it fit is a challenge, too. The retrofit of the newer dash is more trouble than it's worth, believe me. ![]()
